You know I have a lot of acquaintances as well as good friends who are inordinately talented people and I would love to be able to tout them and further their careers by guiding you to their websites. The problem is that most of them don’t have websites. So here are the ones who do, as well as some sites that I’ve just seen and really like a lot.
This is my main creative outlet and artistic home. I’ve been with them for eight years. Good lord, ten years. This is the only ongoing actors training course in town and we do some great shows, if I do say so. I’m the webmaster of the site, and yeah, I know, but we’re getting a redesign! We are!
Roy Agee and Kristie Agee
Roy is my cousin and plays a trombone like you would. Not. Believe. Kristie is his lovely wife who just completed her first CD in fall ‘05. They are hilarious, highly intelligent, enormously talented people. You can hear Roy perform quasi-regularly at the Nashville Jazz Workshop and catch Kristie doing her own gigs around town. Ask Roy to do an impersonation of our grandmother. Pure comedy.
Susan is a good friend and former roommate who is highly intelligent, writes really well and introduced me to Japanese animated film (not the dirty kind.) Check out her journal. And if you’re in the Nashville area and are about to throw your computer through a wall, call her for help. She makes house calls.
Becca Stevens started this program to help women trapped in lives of prostitution and addiction to re-claim their lives. She’s amazing. The women in the program are amazing. They are worthy of your support. Go write them a check!
I take singing classes here off and on and it’s one of the coolest places in town. One of the few places to hear live jazz and take classes.
You have never heard anyone sing like this. Or met a nicer guy. You just haven’t.
I don’t really know this guy at all, except to say that he plays the hell out of a saxophone. I did a benefit with him and Marcus and this unbelievable songwriter lineup this summer and they were all wonderful but I generally made an ass of myself as the emcee. Seriously. But if you like you some sax, you’ll really like this guy. (see I could have rhymed his name there, but that’s the easy way out…)
I discovered this site about six years ago and laughed so hard I cried off all my mascara. Don’t miss the Meat! Meat! Meat! section. “Sometimes meat likes to dress up and feel pretty.”
Ah, Tom and Pru. So gifted. So funny. And Pru is so nekkid on the cover of her new CD! Wooo! She IS a Naughty Skoolgirl!! If you live in Nashville and see that Tom’s playing somewhere, go see him. He has an accordian.
Check out the Cymbal Devil Monkey under Emotionally Scarring Toys.
Really disturbing album covers
And that’s all I have to say about that. Here are some more.
Have I ever told you my Jan and Paul Crouch story? One night on the air Jan was telling a story about her childhood. Apparently she grew up poor in a rural area and one day she and the other children were playing with a pet chicken. Named Chickie. And they were ruuuunin’ and playin’ and just having the best time with Chickie. And then suddenly, Chickie ran out into the road and was hit by a car! Oh, they cried and cried. They picked Chickie up and saw that he was all covered in blood and had one little chicken eye popping out of the socket. They all thought Chickie was gonna die. But then one spiritually sound youngster shouted, “get some anointin’ oil! We’ll heal him!” So they all ran to find some anointing oil, but the closest anyone could find was some Crisco. (I am not making this up.) So they prayed over the Crisco and then smeared it all over Chickie. On his broken wing and on his little eye (which I’m sure he really appreciated) and they prayed over him. And I want you to know….Chickie LIVED. <applause> Because you know what? It doesn’t matter what kind of oil you use…. all that matters is that it’s anointed! Hallelujah!! Trinity Broadcasting Network is awesome at about 1:30 AM. Especially if you’re medicated or drunk.
