Blink by Malcolm Gladwell – I’ve read both of this guy’s books and loved them. In an I’m-not-at-all-obsessed-with-trivia-or-afros kind of way.
Almost French by Sarah Turnbull – I lived in France for a while in college and I love the french but I’ll be damned if I can figure them out. This woman does a great job trying.
Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris - The book that started my true love for David Sedaris. His descriptions of what it’s like to take french classes in Paris, I can confirm for you, are accurate. Disturbing but true. Hilarious.
A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson – This guy is not a scientist but he’s laugh out loud hilarious. Loved this book. And you know science usually makes me itch…
Til We Have Faces by C. S. Lewis – Go to the part that explains the myth first. Unless you’re already familiar with Psyche. Lewis at his best. This is a great book.
Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi – The woman who got me onto graphic novels. Damn the New York Times for making her contributions part of their stupid pay service.
Mental Floss – Not so much a book as a magazine of trivia and things that may help conversation at a dinner party. Hilarious and informative. You’ll love it.
The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown – I know. I feel kind of cheap reading this, but what can I say? It’s a good book.
The New Yorker Magazine – I haven’t read many books lately because I am HOOKED on this magazine.
The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay - Holy crap this was a great book. I finished it a week ago and I’m just not ready to move on to another book yet. I gotta think about it some more.
When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris – I like this one more than I liked Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim. Highly recommended. If you have never read David Sedaris, I am sad for you. But I recommend starting with Me Talk Pretty One Day, if you’re interested.
